2025, The Year of the Snake

Happy Asian New Year! Yes, I know, the Year of the Snake. My knee-jerk is to think, “what’s happy about it?” For a few cases in point, please think of these previous snake years:

1917: United States enters WWI

1929: Stock market crash that sets off the Great Depression

1941: United States enters WW II

1965: Troops arrive in Vietnam, triggering the Vietnam War

1989: Black Friday and the fall of the S & L industry

2001: 9/11 terrorist attacks

2013: Boston Marathon bombings

However, not all snake years spell doom. For example:

1953: Korean War ends

1977: STAR WARS!

Yes, the Year of the Snake is more often a hard year than an easy one, but let’s not get bogged down in melancholia before the year even gets underway. The Snake year is not so much about struggle, but about shedding ones skin. It is difficult, but what emerges is something bigger and stronger in the end.
